These classic Grosse Pointe War Memorial engagement photos highlight the variety of beautiful spots this location offers! And this gorgeous couple will make you swoon.
Rebecca and Josh’s Story
It all began as seniors in high school. These two sat by each other in class and became good friends. Josh always made Rebecca laugh! Years later, they reconnected at a party (that Rebecca almost didn’t attend!), realized their feelings for each other, and have been together ever since.
Josh proposed in Traverse City during a long weekend with friends. After an evening out, Rebecca returned to the AirBnB they were staying at and discovered a pathway of candles leading to the back porch. There she found Josh with a huge light up sign that read “Marry Me.” She was completely surprised! They’ll marry this October at Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Township.
How to Handle Bad Weather
“What do we do if it rains?” – couples ask me this question all the time! For engagement sessions, there’s always flexibility to reschedule. But sometimes, the forecast isn’t accurate (surprise!) and rain appears, even when clear skies were predicted. When this happens, we’re prepared. I always have cute umbrellas on hand for light sprinkles!
At Rebecca and Josh’s session, we had a combination of sprinkles and wind. Even so, they received a full gallery of photos without a hint of inclement weather! Here’s how: sessions are scheduled with buffer time – more time than we actually need. This let us wait out the rain without losing important photo time. We also chose a location with indoor options. When the rain and wind picked up, we headed indoors for some dreamy photos in the library. Finally, I worked fast and photographed quickly outdoors so there would be plenty of variety to choose from. Even if the wind picked up, there were enough options without wind to make it in the final gallery!
The Session
Through the wind and the rain, these two sparkled in front of the camera. Because The War Memorial isn’t as public as a beach or downtown area, we had the luxury of photographing without being watched by others, or trying to avoid people in the background. Rebecca and Josh cozied up in casual attire and danced together in formal wear. They really make an already beautiful location look fab, right?!
