It all started at Catholic school band camp – and led to a beautiful wedding at Chandler’s Chophouse in Schaumburg!
Joey played trumpet. Maggie played clarinet. After years as campers, and then counselors, these two fell in love while trekking across forest trails as they organized evening hikes for the camp!
Joey planned dates for Maggie at Cooper’s Hawk, slowly introducing her to his favorite red wines. The restaurant became their go-to date night spot, and a favorite place to discuss getting married someday.
One night, while checking out a private room for a someday-rehearsal-dinner-space, Joey surprised Maggie by proposing!
Every couple hears that their wedding day will go fast – and it’s true! Looking back, Maggie remembers that the wedding day felt like a blur. Planning out the day, she knew there would be lots of meaningful moments and people she would want to remember. She decided when she booked her photography collection that two photographers would help more of those moments be captured. It was a decision she was glad she made! Not only did it give her a wedding gallery full of the big moments, but little moments too – like the expression on her face when she saw her favorite co-workers, or stopping to hug her director from band camp on the way down the aisle. Two photographers are always able to cover more ground than one! It’s a great choice for peace of mind that you’ll be able to look back and remember every part of your wedding.
When Maggie heard the trumpets play at St. Matthew’s, she knew it was time! Joey fought back tears and the sweetest smile of excitement as Maggie walked down the aisle towards him. They said their vows and were all smiles as they officially became husband and wife!
After snapping through family photos “in record time” (always a goal of mine!), we headed to Spring Valley Nature Center for fun portraits with the bridal party! Maggie and Joey brought eco-friendly confetti for a creative twist on some of these portraits – I loved it! The newlyweds had a few quiet moments together as we took portraits of the two of them, then we headed to Chandler’s for the party!
The reception was *extra* special for a few reasons! First, Maggie’s grandma shared the dance floor with her sister as they and their husbands tied for “longest married couple” – they had shared a double wedding day decades earlier!
Second, Maggie and Joey got married on August 17 – which also happens to be my wedding anniversary with Justin. Weeks before the wedding, Maggie casually emailed me to ask what our first dance song had been because “she needed ideas for her own.”
I was completely caught off guard when our song started playing at Maggie and Joey’s reception! They took time out of their special day to give Justin and I an anniversary dance in front of all their guests. It was one of the most thoughtful, meaningful gifts to us and a true testament to the kind people that they are. We loved watching them hug their guests and have a total blast dancing the night away.
