You’re engaged – HOORAY!! After you book your venue, assemble your wedding party, and create a guest list, it’s time to take engagement photos. Chicago is a dreamy backdrop for romantic save the date photos. But how do you choose Chicago engagement photo locations?
You know you want to showcase the beautiful city you’re getting married in. And you want a background that fits your personalities and relationship. But working with lighting, time of day, and location can be challenging.
Working together, I help my couples pick spots that are a great fit for them. Megan, a past bride, said “I really wanted our photos to reflect the beauty of Chicago, and Kristen helped us so much with narrowing down locations and backgrounds.”
Here’s a glimpse into the best Chicago engagement photo locations I recommend to my couples.
1. The Wrigley Building on Michigan Avenue
A Chicago classic – you’ll often see several wedding parties waiting to take portraits here on Saturdays! It’s easy to access, and features the Chicago River in the background. Because of this, tourists tend to gather here to get that perfect Instagram photo. Looking to avoid the crowds? A sunrise photo session is the answer!
2. North Avenue Beach
Chicago skyline pictures create beautiful save the date prints. The pier at North Avenue Beach is one of two great lakefront options for these photos!
3. The Art Institute of Chicago – South Gardens
Hoping for a touch of nature and greenery? The South Gardens will deliver! No permit needed, but the gardens do close at 5pm, in the winter, and for private events.
4. Olive Park
A personal favorite, and most requested by engaged couples, is Milton Lee Olive Park! Breathtaking skyline views and dreamy golden hour light make it ideal.
5. Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo
Offering both nature backdrops and skyline views, the Nature Boardwalk is a favorite among engaged couples. You’ll get a great variety of photos, including the popular Honeycomb landmark!
6. Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool
A hidden oasis just north of the city. This intimate location is typically free from crowds, and has warm, glowing light at sunset. A permit is required.
7. Grant Park
Expansive and green. Make sure to grab a great skyline photo at the nearby bridge on Balbo Drive!
